Dedication
Music is as vital to me as my family is. Lately, my children have shared my addiction for live music, so we spend more time together. We have gone to big concerts and small shows together.
This year, my sisters will join us at two festivals. It’s great to share some of the same interests with your siblings and children. When I was a teen, my parents hated that I was into heavy metal. I was the oldest and the first to rebel against their favorite oldies. Seems I lured my sisters, and then my kids, to the “dark side,” where I plan to stay. (Yes, we saw Star Wars together, too.) I could never be who I am today without my family, friends and music.
Speaking of music, my biggest inspiration, Avenged Sevenfold, has not failed me. If I’m stuck, I can turn them on, and the block is either cleared, or some idea comes to me on another story. You think some day I’ll ever get to thank them in person? That would be a day to remember, for sure! For now, thanks to Matt, Brian, Zack, Johnny and Jimmy (in rock ‘n’ roll heaven.)
Other bands also give me what I need, in smaller doses: Nothing More, Papa Roach, Adelitas Way, Evanescence, Halestorm, Sick Puppies, Killed the Fixtion, Metallica, Trivium and many more for this book.
My group of supporters keeps changing and growing. I’m quite lucky. Thanks to all of you. Paula (I miss your FB presence),Traci, Anita, Patricia, Donna, Christa, Naiana, Geri, Stephanie, Margo, Ruby, Jena, Sonia, Melissa, Sarah, Casey, Courtney, Coralee, Lora, LaDonna Mary, Nikki, Eva, April, Corey, Jennifer, Lashell and Needa. Sorry if I forgot anyone! You know I’d be nothing without you guys!
Preface
The sequel to Gasoline came to be because the story wasn’t over. There was too much left unfinished, and because Tommy felt he didn’t get enough of a spotlight. He’s got quite an ego. You’ll see that he won, in a later book. (Yes. There is another book with his POV in the works.) If he had his way, he would have a book with only him in it. LOL.
But that would be complicated, since everyone’s stories come to me at once and overlap everywhere. In this book, Tommy has more of a voice, since what he wants from life changes. Crystal had changed him more than he knew it, and those urges come to play in this story. Hence the name, Evolving Urges.
Dominic also has more changes in his life. He is not going through life alone anymore, though. He and Noelle face everything together. This book starts off soon after where the first left off. They go to look at vacation homes down the shore.
Then of course, Dominic needs to deal with Dean. So much to deal with, yet Dominic wants more than Noelle seems ready to give. She loves him enough to trust him, which makes her want to make his wishes come true as well. (These two will have their POV continue in Winter Winds.)
This book contains more of the lead up to the big tour the bands have talked about in the past books in the overall series. There is a tour meeting, where you get to meet a member from each band to attend and some Halloween fun with Gasoline and Triple Threat.
Sex, women and rock ‘n’ roll is still the norm. As always, the boys of Gasoline get a few surprises along the way. Then it ends just before Tommy’s New Year’s Eve party. That will take place in Dual Desires, which is up next.
Chapter 1
Noelle Young, the vocalist of Winter Winds, woke up and rolled over. The space next to her was empty. “Dominic?” she called out. No answer, but she faintly heard music. She had fallen asleep in the arms of Dominic Spinelli, her boyfriend and Gasoline’s lead guitarist. “Dom, you still here?”
After she used the bathroom and put on one of his shirts, she crept down the hallway. She had agreed to stay at his place for 10 days when they were in Virginia. Their first night back from that trip, they were both content. It was a change for them both to commit to someone again.
The music room door was closed. She smiled as she listened. The piano piece was something she recognized, but she didn’t know the name. When she opened the door a crack, she was surprised to see that Dominic played it himself. She thought it was a recording. As she opened the door wider, she noticed he was completely engrossed in it. Eyes closed, his head swayed a bit. He didn’t miss a note. Pride swelled inside her. She had known he was talented, but what she heard was beyond that.
“Hey,” Dominic said when he had hit the last note. “Did I wake you?”
She smiled. “No. Just missed you.” After she hesitated, she walked to him. “Couldn’t sleep?”
“Kinda.” He glanced at the keys under his fingers then at his lap. “Um… I kinda started having nightmares again. But they’re different this time.”
Unsure if he wanted to talk, she watched him carefully. Instead, he looked up at her, so she asked, “What’re they about?”
“You in the car instead.” He couldn’t say more.
She took a deep breath. Then she stood behind him and wrapped her arms around him. “Anything I can do?”
Dominic leaned back on her. Then he reached up and held her face. “Just this. Being here for me helps the most.”
He wished he knew how to stop the dreams. Noelle in place of Claire in the fatal accident was impossible and irrational. When he woke up drenc
hed in sweat, he didn’t want her to worry. After a cool shower, he was drawn to the piano. It was what he did years ago when life became too much—play classical pieces.
“You play beautifully,” she whispered. “I never knew you were that good.”
With a grin, he tilted his head up. “Thanks. I been playing since I was six. My mom called me a prodigy.” Back then, he practiced several hours a day. “I used to play anytime something bothered me.”
“Like this morning?” Her eyes closed. “It’s a better outlet than some.”
He nodded. “Yeah. I tried all the others over the years. The pain comes back.” His voice was soft. The sadness was evident in it.
Without another word, she knew what he meant. He must have tried anything he could to numb the guilt. She was glad the walls were broken down that emotional night. The tale was heart-wrenching, but it also gave him relief. If not for that night, they wouldn’t be together.
“Do you feel better now?” She ran her hands down his chest. “Did the music soothe you?”
He sighed. “Yeah. You still wanna look at houses today?”
“Of course.” She hugged his neck gently. “Our vacation spot, right?”
“Right.” He pulled her arms open and stood. Then he turned and smiled. “We both have to like it, so be honest. Kristen said she has eight properties for us to look at.”
The two of them had spent most of the day before searching online in Dominic’s bedroom. Then they decided to use Kristen, Tommy’s real estate contact, after all. Tommy was his band’s bassist. Dominic was impressed Kristen knew her stuff. He worried Tommy was kidding that she was good at her job. Normally, Tommy only thought of sex. Kristen was a looker, but she said she wasn’t into Tommy in a non-professional way. Their video chat had spanned more than just real estate talk.
Dominic was happy Noelle planned to stay for nine more days. It would hurt to let her go when it was time to leave for Seattle. The night before, they stayed in, watched movies, and then snuggled in bed. He couldn’t imagine how he would sleep alone again.
“Do you have to check on your parents before we leave?” She knew very little about them but deduced they were getting on in years.
After he thought it over, he replied, “I should. Haven’t stopped by in more than a week. My mom’s probably worried.” He had been so preoccupied with Noelle, a few things had been forgotten. Dean, Gasoline’s singer, was another issue he needed to deal with.
“Did she call?”
He met her worried gaze. “No. Sometimes she forgets where she puts her address book. She won’t let me buy her a cell phone.”
Noelle laughed. “I couldn’t live without mine.” She put her hands on his waist. “Do you want me to try and convince her?”
His eyes opened wide. He didn’t want her to meet his parents. It would most definitely end in disaster. “You can stay here. I’ll go.”
“What the hell?” She could tell he was shutting her out. “I thought we had no more secrets. Why don’t you want me to meet your family?”
He backed away from her and steeled himself against the inevitable. “It’s not that.” He walked out and headed to his bedroom. Then he turned back and went the other way.
“Then what is it?” She followed him. “Dominic, we’re not doing this again. Talk to me.”
He stopped in the kitchen, in front of the cabinet that held his liquor. It was hard to resist the urge to open it. His hands balled into fists. “It’s complicated.”
“I’m used to complicated.” She folded her arms over her chest and waited.
One glance at her, and he knew she wouldn’t budge. “They’re not doing well.”
“Oh. I’m sorry. They’re both sick?” It was the first she heard that.
His eyes closed. “It may be Alzheimer's. At least, with my mom.”
“Are you worried they’ll—” Suddenly, it clicked. “They’re going to think I’m Claire.” He nodded, which sealed it. She took a step in his direction, but he cringed slightly. “You don’t want me to touch you?”
He looked up at the cabinet. “I don’t know.”
“Dom, I love you.” She gradually moved closer to him. “And I’ll go with whatever you want. If they think I’m her and you’re OK with it, then fine.” She hoped he didn’t want that. It would be awkward at best.
He shook his head then looked down when her arms held his middle. “They haven’t met any of my girlfriends since the accident.” Then he groaned and mumbled, “I need to call Claire’s mom and make sure they got the check for Dad’s new wheelchair.” His mind was on overdrive. It flitted from one disaster to the next.
“Dad?” She was thoroughly confused. “Her parents live with yours?”
He exhaled loudly, unsure how to explain. “No. Well, you see… Uh, well, I’ve always called them Mom and Dad. When Claire and Annabeth died, that didn’t change. I still visit them from time to time and support them somewhat. She was an only child. Her father fell off their roof when he was installing solar panels. He wouldn’t let me pay someone to do it. Now he’s partially paralyzed. He needs an electric wheelchair since he’s out of the rehab facility. I’d like you to meet them, too.”
Noelle’s mouth was open slightly. She hadn’t thought there would be two sets of parents to meet. “Um, so… they’re not going to be upset you moved on?”
He took a deep breath and turned around. “Nah.” He felt her angst. “Mom has been trying to get me to move on for years. She helped me a lot, but I just couldn’t.”
She laid her head on his chest and squeezed him. “Now you have, and I’m glad it’s with me.”
“Me, too.” He kissed the top of her head. “I really should go check on my parents before we head east.”
She smiled, glad he would include her, but also nervous they wouldn’t like her. “OK.” She didn’t know what else to say.
“My mom’s gonna love you.” Dominic’s arms tightened around her. “She’s gonna pinch your cheeks.”
“As long as it’s not my ass cheeks.” She couldn’t stifle the laugh.
He lightly slapped her ass. “Those are mine.” He paused before he asked, “You hungry?”
“Yeah.” She lifted her head. “Some type of cereal is fine.”
Dominic toyed with his bottom lip. “I don’t have cereal. Never liked it. I can make you eggs, pancakes, French toast.” He let her go and opened the refrigerator. I have biscuits and bagels, too. Tommy stops by after partying sometimes, so I keep his favorites around.”
“He comes over without calling?” She glanced at the front door. She hoped he didn’t make an appearance soon.
“I gave him a key for emergencies,” Dominic explained. “Sometimes he calls or texts, but not if he’s too drunk to drive home. Then I just wake up to him on the couch. It doesn’t happen often.” He pulled out a tube of biscuit mix. “How about I make eggs and these?”
Noelle nodded. “That’s good.” She moved away from the oven, unsure how to help in the small room. “Uh, anything I can do?”
“Take a shower and start getting ready?” He laid the ingredients he needed on the counter space next to the stove. “I don’t need as much time as you.”
She smacked his arm. “I don’t take that long.”
“Hey.” He rubbed his arm. “I wasn’t trying to insult you. I meant girls have more to do. For a chick, you can get ready pretty fast.”
“Nice save.” She rolled her eyes. “I’ll be back.”
Chapter 2
He soon heard the water turn on, and his head lifted. The eggs were scrambled and biscuits on a cookie sheet. Noelle's voice floated down the hall. She sang “Bring Me to Light.” Amy Lee was one of her idols. Her voice called to him. He set the bowl down and turned off the fry pan. Then he walked to the master bathroom.
Her silhouette made his blood rush south. He bit the corner of his lower lip and watched her for a minute or two. Then he quickly undressed. His erection bounced as he took the few steps forwar
d. He was thankful for the non-slip tiles he had installed a few years back. As quietly as possible, he pulled the curtain back.
Noelle’s back was to Dominic. She washed and sang, oblivious to his approach. How to convince her bandmates to come to the East Coast to record occupied her mind. Mitchell would follow her anywhere, but the others? They had lives to live. When arms suddenly wrapped around her body, she screamed.
“Sorry.” Dominic smiled as he held her close. “Trying to surprise you.” He pressed his body to hers. “Promised you something a few weeks back.” His hand slid up the front of her body. “The time has come…” His lips brushed her ear.
They both needed the distraction. What lay ahead that day was daunting and stressful.
Dominic caressed her skin, as he ground his stiff shaft into her ass cheek. He moved the suds on her skin with his fingers. Together they moaned with anticipation. Noelle’s head came back to rest on his upper chest. He used that as an advantage and ran a hand over her throat. Soap covered his hands by then. That made torturing her with pleasure easier.
“Please,” she begged, fully aroused. Desperation started to set in.
Only with him could she never get enough. After their marathon sex over the last week, she should have been satisfied. However, with him, desire was constant. With his hands on her neck and hip, she felt like she lost control. Every nerve ending fired. That caused her to shiver and gasp. Unable to handle it any longer, she reached back and grabbed his ass.
“Want me?” he whispered.
She took a deep breath as she shuddered with need. “Yes.”
“Bend a bit.” He cleaned the soap from his hands while she did as told. He let the water rinse most of her body. “Tell me if I hurt you.” He was always aware his size was difficult for her to take.
With a hand on her hip and one to guide his cock, he slowly teased her with the tip. As he pushed it through her folds, he heard the sigh he hoped for. Then he shifted and pressed against her entrance. After he entered her slightly, he held her hips and thrust forward. She tensed, and he froze.
